Our research notes
Verified 2026-09-27 against binding documents: the Bitpanda Card Terms (version 2.0.0, dated 1 April 2025, the current version on bitpanda.com/en/legal), the TPML Cardholder Agreement with its Fees and Limits Schedule (last updated 8 April 2025), Bitpanda's Cost Transparency Document for crypto assets (version 4.0.0, dated 8 July 2026) and the E-Token Terms (dated 8 July 2026), plus the official helpdesk (card FAQs, card benefits, cashback applicability, card transactions, fees and premiums) and the card page. CASHBACK: the Card Terms fix cashback at 1% of all qualifying transactions, no longer tied to BEST VIP level, paid in the E-Token used. Only crypto-funded purchases qualify: EUR, e-money tokens (stablecoins), metals, stocks and ATM withdrawals are excluded, as are listed merchant categories. No cashback cap appears in the rewards annex or the helpdesk. The card page meta description still says 'up to 2% cashback', which dates from the BEST VIP tiers that the Card Terms replaced; modelled at 1%. TRADING FEE: the Card Terms say trading fees for selling your payment asset are debited when you pay, and the helpdesk says each card payment incurs 'the usual trading fee'. The Cost Transparency Document sets that fee at 0.99% for Bitcoin and VSN, 1.49% for other crypto and 2.49% for small caps. MODEL: fx.conversionRate 0.0099, the fee for Bitcoin, the cheapest asset that earns cashback, so crypto-funded spend keeps about 0.01%. Other assets cost more (1.49% gives about -0.49%). Paying from EUR has no fee and no cashback (0%). How to treat this fee is flagged for the founder. Not modelled: any spread inside Bitpanda's quoted price beyond the stated fee (the E-Token Terms price trades from an internal pricing mechanism; a real-transaction test would settle it), and the 20% VSN trading fee discount, which needs a VSN balance and is not confirmed for card trades. FX: the cardholder agreement's fee schedule lists a 0% foreign exchange charge 'on top of mark-up applied by Visa', and the card page shows a €0 non-EUR FX fee. The card is denominated in EUR, so euro spend has no conversion. One helpdesk article still says a currency exchange fee is deducted on non-EUR payments; it conflicts with the fee schedule and the card benefits article, and was not followed. FEES: no card, monthly or shipping fee; replacement €5.90 (schedule and helpdesk; a card page FAQ says €9.90); extra physical card €10; ATM 2% (minimum €2). REGIONS: the helpdesk says all Eurozone countries except Cyprus and Liechtenstein; the cardholder agreement's EEA wording is wider, but Bitpanda offers the card only in the euro area. The site's EU region also covers non-euro EU countries where the card is not offered. HISTORY: the previous Card Terms (version 1.0.0, 3 February 2025, issuer Contis) tied cashback to BEST VIP level; version 2.0.0 (1 April 2025, issuer TPML) fixed it at 1%.
