Our own test

We're buying things with crypto cards in AUD, USD, EUR and GBP from October and comparing what each card takes with the mid-market rate. What this card actually charges will show here and in our Q4 report.

Our research notes

CATEGORY BONUSES verified 2026-09-28 from official sources; see docs/research/cards/bonuses.md. BALANCE TIERS (2026-09-27): rates depend on the 30-day average balance, which stays spendable, so plans use balanceIsCash (no depreciation; a balance up to one month of spend is assumed held). Researched and verified 2026-09-27 against binding sources: the Lead Bank Krak Card issuing bank terms (last updated 2026-08-03, fee schedule), Kraken US Card Services Terms (Annex T of kraken.com/legal/global-terms), the Monavate UK and EEA cardholder agreements (krak.app/legal/card-terms), the official pricing page (krak.app/pricing, US, EEA and UK tables) and support.krak.app articles (Card FAQ 2026-09-18, US Card FAQ 2026-08-10, Cashback overview 2026-07-31, Rewards FAQ 2026-09-16, US Metal Card 2026-09-16, Card management 2026-07-03). CONFIRMED (high): UK and EEA on Mastercard (Monavate Ltd FRN 901097; UAB Monavate, Bank of Lithuania), US on Visa since 18 Aug 2026 (Lead Bank, programme manager Stripe); US excludes NY, ME, MA, IN; five tiers by 30-day average balance across Krak, Kraken and Kraken Pro: Starter under 200 at 0%, Lite 200 at 0.5%, Pro 1,000 at 1%, Elite 10,000 at 1.5%, Max 50,000 at 2% (USD, GBP or EUR amounts by region); no cashback cap; payout in USD/GBP/EUR or BTC; first 30 days on Max for new customers; $0 monthly, annual and issuance fees; replacement $4.99 plastic, $60 metal, US expedited shipping $14.99; US 1% foreign transaction fee (also on non-US merchants in USD); UK/EEA 0% FX; no Krak ATM fee; cashback excludes ATM withdrawals and purchases under 0.49. MODELLING: each balance tier is a plan with requiresStake equal to the USD threshold; the GBP and EUR thresholds are the same numbers, so slightly higher in USD. The required balance stays spendable, can be held in USD, and is not a token lock, so the engine's 15% depreciation charge overstates the cost. conversionRate is 0 because spending the card's primary currency has no spread; crypto and other currencies carry an unpublished variable spread (third-party estimates about 1% to 1.5%, unverified). CONFLICTS: the krak.app cashback marketing page shows four tiers with 0.5% below 1,000, while the pricing page, Rewards FAQ and cashback overview show 0% below 200; the binding pricing table is used. The 'Spending with your US Krak Card' article (2026-08-05) says no FX fees are added, but the Lead Bank terms, Annex T, pricing page and US FAQ all say 1%. Concierge: the cashback page says flights or hotels, the Concierge support article says hotels only. OPEN: the US Metal Card article says US tier thresholds rise and cashback rates change from 15 Oct 2026, with no figures published yet; re-verify the US plans after that date. US spending and ATM limits are not published. The Monavate early-cancellation fee (within six months) has no published amount. Verify all three before the next update.
