Our own test

We're buying things with crypto cards in AUD, USD, EUR and GBP from October and comparing what each card takes with the mid-market rate. What this card actually charges will show here and in our Q4 report.

Where these numbers come from

OKX Card's published terms, checked 27 September 2026. Where sources disagree we use the less generous reading.

Our research notes

Pass 2 research 2026-09-27: every maths input verified against OKX documents opened and saved on that date. MODELLED PROGRAMME: the EEA card (live since 28 Jan 2026), the largest market open to sign-ups. OKX runs separate card programmes by region with different issuers, networks and caps, so only the EEA programme is in the plans and only EU is listed as open. ISSUER AND FEES (HIGH): the EEA Regional Addendum to the Pay Wallet Terms (last updated 5 Feb 2026) names UAB Monavate (Bank of Lithuania e-money licence LB002139) as issuer and OKX Europe Limited as programme manager; it says the card is denominated in euros, that a 0% fee applies to the card-level conversion on non-euro spend (Mastercard's rate), and that a crypto liquidation fee of not more than 0.10% may apply when stablecoins are converted to euros. So fx.rate is 0 and conversionRate is 0.001 on every purchase. The Monavate cardholder agreement lists no fee table; OKX's EEA card page and FAQ say no transaction or FX fees and a 0.1% spread, and OKX's EEA guide says no issuance, monthly, annual or inactivity fees. CASHBACK (MED-HIGH): OKX's EEA 'OKX Card cashback program FAQ' (updated 11 Sep 2026, linked from the addendum, which leaves rates and caps to OKX) gives the table in effect from 1 Sep 2026: no VIP level 2% capped at €50 a month; VIP 1 4% capped at €300; VIP 2 4.5% capped at €450; VIP 3 5% capped at €1,000; VIP 4+ 10% capped at €1,000. Only USDG-funded purchases earn; cashback is paid in USDG. OKX's EEA offers page says the cap was raised from €10 to €50, and its campaign terms confirm the €10 standard cap before September. The September-only opt-in cap of €100, the first-transaction bonus (up to 12 USDG) and the 50% subscription cashback are time-limited and not in the maths. Caps converted at the ECB rate of 25 Sep 2026, EUR/USD 1.1403: €50 = $57.02, €300 = $342.09, €450 = $513.14, €1,000 = $1,140.30. VIP LEVELS (MED): VIP status comes from asset balance or 30-day trading volume. VIP 1 starts above €100,000 of assets (or €1 million of 30-day trading volume) on OKX's EEA fee page, with the same asset figure in the card promo FAQ. For VIP 2 to 4 the two OKX sources disagree (fee page: over €200,000, €2 million, €5 million; card promo FAQ: over €250,000, €500,000, €2 million), so the higher figure is modelled: €250,001 ($285,076), €2,000,001 ($2,280,601) and €5,000,001 ($5,701,501); VIP 1 is €100,001 ($114,031). These are balances held on OKX, not locked, but the modelling rules treat VIP asset balances as a stake. The trading-volume route is not modelled. OTHER REGIONS (not in the plans): Australia (Bano Pty Ltd, USD Mastercard): the PDS (9 Jun 2026) charges no OKX FX fee and a 0.10% conversion spread on every purchase, and the binding cashback terms (3 Sep 2026) pay 2% capped at 50 USDG a month without VIP, up to 10% capped at 1,500 USDG; the card page says the card is available to internal users with a public waitlist, so Australia is not listed as open. Singapore (Visa, OKX SG Pte Ltd): no OKX FX or transaction fee, 0.1% spread on USDT and on SGD payments, and cashback (2% capped at $50 up to 10% capped at $1,000) only for Accredited Investors. Brazil, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, South Africa and Pakistan (USD card; the non-Australian programme is issued by Bano Pty Ltd under a global cardholder agreement with a 0.10% spread as the only OKX fee): OKX's regional guides give 2% capped at $5 a month without VIP, VIP 1 4% capped at $100, up to 10% capped at $800. The US and UAE pages show a waitlist; the UK page offers OKX Pay but no card. CUSTODY: OKX calls the Pay Wallet a smart wallet with no handover of ownership until you pay, but OKX signs card payments on your behalf and the EEA addendum accepts custody-style liability under MiCA Article 75; marked custodial. STILL TO VERIFY: an in-app check of the EEA VIP thresholds and caps, whether the €50 cap continues after September, and an EEA test purchase in a non-euro currency to confirm the 0% card-level conversion fee.

What's good and what to watch

Good

  • No card, monthly or FX fee from OKX: only a conversion fee of up to 0.10% per purchase
  • 2% cashback in USDG with no VIP level, up to €50 a month (about €2,500 of spend) since 1 September 2026
  • Euro-denominated card in the EEA, so euro spend involves no currency conversion
  • Works with Apple Pay and Google Pay

Watch

  • Cashback only on purchases paid with USDG; USDC spend earns nothing
  • Without a VIP level, cashback stops at €50 a month
  • Rates above 2% need OKX VIP status: over €100,000 in assets on OKX (or €1 million in 30-day trading volume) for VIP 1
  • Virtual card only, on a prepaid card range: some hotels, car rentals and fuel pumps may decline it
  • OKX can change rates and caps at any time; the no-VIP cap was €10 a month until 31 August 2026
  • Outside the EEA the programme differs: Singapore pays cashback only to Accredited Investors, and the USD programme in Brazil, Africa and Pakistan caps no-VIP cashback at $5 a month
