Test your own card

Find out what your crypto card really charges when you pay in another currency. Add your transactions and we'll check every purchase against the mid-market rate (the real exchange rate, with no markup). Your file stays on your device.

A CSV file works best. Your file is read here, on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to share in step 5, and even then only the numbers.

How to get your transactions

Most card apps let you download your transaction history as a CSV file. Look on the card's activity or transactions screen, or in its settings. For every purchase we need four things:

  • the date
  • the price in the shop's currency (A$6.50)
  • the amount the card took (US$4.52)
  • any fee the card listed separately

On the cards we use ourselves:

  • Plasma One: the app's transaction download has every column we need. Only card purchases are counted, not top-ups or transfers.
  • Tria: its CSV download shows both amounts on every purchase.
  • ether.fi: its download is a spreadsheet. Open it and save it as a CSV first.

No download in your app?

Take a screenshot of each purchase's details screen, or save a PDF if that's what the app offers. Give them to an AI assistant like ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini with this prompt, then paste what it gives back into step 2. Check a few rows against your app before you share: AI tools can misread screenshots.

Turn these card transactions into a CSV with exactly these columns:
date,local_amount,local_currency,card_amount,fee

- One row per card purchase. Leave out top-ups, transfers, refunds, declined payments and ATM withdrawals.
- date as YYYY-MM-DD.
- local_amount is the price in the shop's currency, and local_currency is its three-letter code (AUD, EUR, JPY).
- card_amount is what the card took, in the card's own currency.
- fee is any fee listed separately for that purchase, or 0.
- Use positive numbers with no currency symbols.
- Don't include merchant names, card numbers, my name, addresses or anything else about me.

What happens to your data

  • Your file is read in your browser. It isn't uploaded, and the merchant names, wallet addresses and everything else in it never leave your device.
  • If you choose to share, we get only what step 5 shows: five numbers for each purchase, the card, plan and country you picked, and your X handle or note if you add them.
  • We use it to measure what cards really charge. Once we've checked it, it appears on the card's test page as a reader result, with your X handle if you gave one.
  • A reader result only moves a card's ranking once a second reader, or our own test, agrees. That way no single set of numbers can move a card on its own.
  • Changed your mind? Use your reference under “Remove something you shared” and we'll take it out.

How we test cards ourselves is on the methodology page, and what we've found so far is on our tests.
