Pros
- Long track record (since 2015) and a rare dual Visa+Mastercard principal membership — no sponsor-bank fragility
- New no-subscription Wirex One pays cashback in USD value, removing the volatile-token payout of the old model
- Genuine premium Visa perks (lounges, hotel collection, concierge, flight comp) at no monthly fee
- Two-sided referral — new users get a bonus ($10/$30/$60 by first deposit)
- Apple Pay + Google Pay, multi-currency base accounts, and separate savings yield
Cons
- Realistic new-user cashback is ~0.5% at best — the advertised up-to-8% is on legacy plans now CLOSED to new sign-ups and paid in the sub-cent, illiquid WXT token
- Wirex One redemption is gated: you can only redeem ~7% of your WPAY dollar-holdings per month, so with no WPAY you accrue cashback but effectively can't cash it out
- "0% FX" hides a ~0.5–2% crypto→fiat conversion spread baked into spend (true 0% only on same-currency fiat balances)
- Custodial — you don't hold your keys; no card for US or Canada
- Program is mid-transition (June 2026) with unpublished tier thresholds — hard to pin down

Sources & how we verify this
Researched 2026-07-02 and adversarially re-verified 2026-07-04 (a review flagged the cashback as too-good-to-be-true — confirmed). KEY CORRECTION: the up-to-8% 'Cryptoback' is on the legacy X-tras plans (Standard/Premium/Elite, paid in WXT), which are being WOUND DOWN and CLOSED TO NEW SIGN-UPS — from 30 June 2026 crypto features incl. Cryptoback are removed from the Classic app for EEA + Australia and new account creation is blocked (help art 1348, status.wirexapp.com); users are pushed to Wirex One. Legacy Elite also had WXT-denominated caps (~250,000 WXT/mo ≈ $475, ~9,000 WXT/tx ≈ $17) and WXT trades at ~$0.0019 (illiquid, downtrend), so '4% in WXT' was never worth 4% cash. The only product a new user can get is Wirex One: 0.5% base cashback valued in USD, but redemption is gated by 'Redemption Power = 7% of WPAY dollar-holdings per month' — a base user holding no WPAY can accrue but effectively can't redeem; higher tiers need holding WPAY (~$0.49, thin liquidity, ~10x FDV overhang) at undisclosed portfolio %. On top, the '0% FX' hides a ~0.5–2% crypto→fiat conversion spread. MODELING: re-mapped to Wirex One base (0.5%, USD) and netted a ~0.5% conversion spread (fx.conversionRate) → realistic effective ~0%; the prior ~4% was picking up a discontinued product denominated in a near-worthless token. Kept on the site for its genuine premium Visa perks, not for cashback. VERIFY before publishing: exact Wirex One tier thresholds, current regional reach of the transition, and the referral referee bonus ($10/$30/$60 by deposit).
