What Tria Card charged on 790 real purchases

This test is about fees. We wanted to know what Tria Card actually takes when you pay with it, especially in other currencies, including costs that never appear on its fee page. So we checked every purchase on our own Tria card, 1 Nov 2025 to 30 Sep 2026, against the mid-market rate, and put what we paid next to the advertised fees and the advertised cashback.

How we worked it out

We check every purchase against that day's mid-market rate (the real exchange rate, with no markup) and report the typical cost in each currency. Every card gets at least a week of regular spending on the card first. How we test

  • The headline counts only purchases from 15 May 2026, when Tria began charging 0.5% on purchases outside US dollars, so it reflects today's fees. The months before are shown for comparison.
  • The gap between the published 1.5% and the measured 1.93% is Visa's exchange rate, which came out about 0.4% above the market rate.
  • Tria's app lists its fee as 1%, discounted to 0.5% for now. If the discount ends, purchases outside US dollars would cost about 0.5% more.
  • We left out one large hotel pre-authorization, which didn't behave like an everyday purchase.

The rankings use 1.9% for Tria on purchases outside US dollars and 0% in US dollars.
