Our research notes
Pass 2, 27 Sep 2026: verified against Avici's card terms (US Cardholder Agreement and fee box, issuer Third National; international Spend Card Terms, last updated 23 Jun 2025 in the docs and 20 Jun 2025 on avici.money; the business card terms of 16 Oct 2025 show the same fees), the docs fees, regions, profile verification and card pages, the Terms of Use (25 Jun 2026) and the Referrals terms (23 Sep 2026). FX: the US fee box says 'International Transaction: 1%' and the international terms say 'currently 1%' (charged by Visa, no Avici markup, up to 3% allowed); the docs fee page says 0% markup and 'Visa may charge a small 0.4-1%'. Modelled at 1% on the binding terms; US spend in USD is free. No per-purchase conversion fee (USDC to USD, $0 transaction fee). Cashback: none in any Avici document; campaigns (Terms of Use section 21) and a reported 5% chosen-category offer are not modelled. Plans: Platinum $15 one-time for the first virtual card; Signature $30 for the first year then $20 a year, modelled as a $10 one-time cost plus a $20 yearly fee. Both pay 0%. Regions from the docs list: 49 countries plus 31 US states. Rain provides the card contracts (Avici calls Rain its card-issuing partner). Exploit: on 29 Aug 2026 Avici posted 'Refunds are processed in full, with an extra 10% cashback'; the 10% was a one-off, not a rate. Still to verify: the ATM daily limit ($3,000 or $250) and whether any category cashback is live in the app.
What's good and what to watch
Good
- Self-custodial design: card funds sit in an escrow contract owned by your wallet, and only your wallet can withdraw unspent funds
- Open in about 50 countries outside Europe, incl. Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Japan, plus 31 US states
- Low entry cost: $15 one-time for a virtual Platinum card, no monthly or annual fee
- No transaction, top-up or withdrawal-to-wallet fees
Watch
- No cashback on spend
- 1% FX fee on non-USD spend under the card terms, although the docs fee page shows a 0% markup
- Card fee is charged before identity verification
- 28 Aug 2026: a flaw in an outdated Rain Solana card contract drained $500,859 from the card balances of 1,685 Avici users; Avici refunded them in full plus 10%
- Not available in the UK, the EU or Canada
- Refunds to the card can only be spent, not withdrawn to the wallet
