FX fee
0% when you pay in USD or EUR from the matching balance ('direct pairs'). Other currencies carry a fee COCA puts at 0.5% to 1.5% for indirect pairs (blog, 23 Sep 2026) without saying which currency pays what; COCA says the lowest fees are on USD, EUR and GBP. Modelled at 1.5%, the top of that range, until confirmed
Conversion fee
No per-purchase fee stated
Topping up
Stablecoin deposits (USDC, USDT, EURC) on many chains, SEPA transfer to a personal EUR IBAN (residents of listed SEPA countries), or a card top-up
ATM withdrawals

Our own test

We're buying things with crypto cards in AUD, USD, EUR and GBP from October and comparing what each card takes with the mid-market rate. What this card actually charges will show here and in our Q4 report.

Where these numbers come from

COCA Card's published terms, checked 27 September 2026. Where sources disagree we use the less generous reading.

Our research notes

Pass 2, researched 2026-09-27 from documents opened and saved (evidence/coca in the Q4 report pack). VERIFIED against the binding COCA Loyalty Program terms (help-centre 'Tier System Terms & Conditions', last updated 1 Sep 2026): cashback 1% Starter, 3% Standard (300 COCA staked), 4% Standard+ (1,000), 5% Premium (3,000), 6% Premium+ (10,000), 8% Elite (30,000), each on all eligible spend with no spend band; Monthly Claim Capacity $15 / $25 / $35 / $60 / $140 / $350, which covers cashback, subscription rebates, referral and campaign rewards (not APY). Rewards pend 14 days, are claimed by hand into the USD or EUR balance, roll over if unclaimed and expire 12 months after becoming claimable. Staked COCA is locked for the tier's duration, earns no APY, and is released only after cancelling the tier and a 30-day cooldown. No subscription fee on any tier; virtual card free, plastic $5 on the three lower tiers. CHANGE ON 1 SEP 2026: the previous terms (last updated 17 Apr 2026) paid the enhanced rate only up to a monthly spend allowance ($1,000 / $1,750 / $2,500 / $5,000 / $10,000, then 1%) with no claim limit; COCA's docs pages and its cashback page FAQ still show that older structure. MODELLING: the claim capacity is modelled as monthlyRewardCap because at steady spend above it the excess piles up and expires; boosters announced for October 2026 (Volume, Tier and Staking boosters) are not in the terms and are not modelled. requiresStake = COCA amount x $1.34 (CoinGecko, 27 Sep 2026). The 30% stake discount (1 to 30 Sep 2026) is excluded. FX NOT VERIFIED: no COCA document states a fee for currencies other than USD and EUR. The docs say 'Zero FX Fees on Direct Pairs'; in a 22 Sep 2026 AMA COCA said card payments 'can have a small FX fee depending on the merchant's currency' with the lowest fees on USD, EUR and GBP; COCA's own August 2026 test of a ZAR purchase measured a 1.18% spread over mid-market. COCA blog posts of 23 and 24 Sep 2026 say '0% for direct pairs like USDC to USD' and that 'indirect pairs range from 0.5 to 1.5%'. Founder decision (28 Sep 2026): UK, AU, APAC and ROW are modelled at 1.5%, the top of that published range, because the fee per currency is not published; a real GBP and AUD purchase should verify it. EU (EUR balance) and US (USD balance) are treated as base currencies. Network is Visa per the current terms and site; a 2024 page described a Wirex-issued Mastercard. Regions follow the terms' 76-country list (not US or Canada).

What's good and what to watch

Good

  • 1% back on all eligible spend with no stake, paid to your USD or EUR balance in USDC or EURC
  • Staking tiers raise the rate to 3% to 8% on all eligible spend, with no spend band
  • No subscription or annual fee on any tier; free virtual card
  • Variable APY on the USD balance on every tier (5% at 1 Sep 2026), outside the claim capacity
  • Self-custodial smart wallet: card payments pull only the authorised amount
  • Open to residents of 76 countries including the UK, EEA and Australia

Watch

  • A monthly claim capacity limits what you can take out: $15 on Starter (reached at $1,500 of spend) up to $350 on Elite. Unclaimed rewards roll over but expire 12 months after they become claimable
  • Paid tiers need 300 to 30,000 COCA staked and locked (about $400 to $40,200 at $1.34); unstaking means cancelling the tier and a 30-day cooldown
  • Staked COCA earns no yield
  • Spending in currencies other than USD and EUR carries an FX fee COCA does not publish
  • Rewards pend for 14 days and must be claimed in the app, once a day, $1 minimum
  • Not available in the US or Canada
