Our own test

We're buying things with crypto cards in AUD, USD, EUR and GBP from October and comparing what each card takes with the mid-market rate. What this card actually charges will show here and in our Q4 report.

Our research notes

Pass 2 research 2026-09-27, verified against binding documents opened and saved on that date. FX (HIGH): the fee schedule 'Terms, fees and limits for Tangem Pay Cards' (applicable as of 25 Sep 2026) and both card agreements on paera.com/tangempay (US Credit Card Account Opening Disclosures and International Spend Card Terms, effective 7 Sep 2026) set the foreign exchange fee at the Visa exchange rate plus 1.5% on non-USD transactions. The card currency is USD in every region, so US residents pay nothing and residents of Australia, Asia-Pacific and other regions pay 1.5% on local-currency spend. This replaces the 1% network placeholder used in pass 1. The previous international terms (effective 17 Nov 2025) said 'up to 3%'. CASHBACK (HIGH): Tangem Pay Cashback Program Terms and Conditions, version 2.0, effective 14 Sep 2026 (Paera LLC), Appendix A: Basic 1% with a $100 monthly cap, Plus 2% with a $300 monthly cap, $30 minimum purchase, paid in USDC. The terms have no list of excluded countries of residence: the only geographic exclusion is in-store purchases at merchants in the 27 EU countries, so cardholders in Australia, Asia-Pacific and other open regions earn the same rates (pass 1 had modelled them at 0%). Appendix B excludes many merchant categories, including utilities, telecoms, fuel dispensers, insurance, education, parking, government and money transfers; general-spend rates are modelled as stated. PLUS FEE (HIGH for the fee, MED for the waiver): $29.99 a month in the fee schedule and card terms; the help centre says it is charged every 30 calendar days and the first month is taken on upgrade. The waiver at $4,500 of monthly spend appears on the product page and help centre tiers page, and $65,000 in Yield Mode appears on the product page and in the tiers blog post, but neither is in the binding fee schedule. The waived plan is modelled with qualifyingMonthlySpend 4500 and requiresStake 65000 (a balance held in Yield Mode, entered as a stake; the engine's depreciation cost overstates the cost of holding stablecoins). REGIONS (MED-HIGH): Annex I to the Tangem Pay terms lists the countries and US states the card can be issued to, including Australia, Japan, New Zealand, the Philippines and Singapore, and no EU, EEA, UK or Canadian country. Tangem's product page and help centre say the US and select countries in LATAM, APAC, MEA and Africa; a June 2026 Tangem blog post says UK and EU availability is planned for 2026. The pass 1 'EEA since 23 Mar 2026' traced to an aggregator review and is not supported by any Tangem or Paera document, so EU is no longer listed. ISSUER: all three binding documents name Third National; the product page and help centre say the card is issued by Rain, a Visa Principal Member. The US document is a collateralised credit card account (0% APR) and the international one a spend card, both repaid from the USDC or USDT balance; type is set to credit, as for other Third National cards. No conversion fee: the fee schedule lists transaction fees of $0. Please verify with an in-app check or a real non-USD purchase: whether the 30-day Plus fee is waived for the month in which $4,500 is spent, and whether Australian residents pass onboarding.
